Last week I got a pleasant surprise in the form of an email from Nicole with The Buttercup Bakery, LLC. She was looking to rebrand her business; hoping to add a little professionalism and attract a new market. Well. Anyone who knows me knows I am a big fan of bakeries--I mean, cakes, cupcakes, sugar in general... who isn't a fan?! So I was 100% on board with this project.
Having never met Nicole before, I didn't really know how significant this logo would be at first, but the story behind her business and what she wanted to represent ended up being even sweeter than her recipes. When discussing what she had in mind for a logo, she told me that she wanted to do something attractive and professional, that still represented her personality. She also hoped to represent her daughter. As it turned out, The Buttercup Bakery is all for her--not only to help support her now, but it's also meant to become a legacy for her: a shared love that her daughter can take over one day--if she wants to, of course! Nicole's vision was so sweet, and she seemed so sweet herself, I was instantly hooked. I HAD to do this logo.
So with the story in mind, as well as Nicole's color scheme and the hope to incorporate her daughter's and her identical black glasses into the mix (isn't that the cutest thing?), I sketched a quick draft (with a baby in one hand no less) and sent it off.
I always love it when this happens: Nicole was on board right away (it was actually her idea to use two cupcakes holding hands)! Truthfully, she was probably one of the easiest logo clients I have ever worked with (which is saying something because I've had some amazing clients). It only took a few hours of drawing and drafting for the very rough picture above to become a few clean and clear drafts:
Any guesses of which she chose?
Well... The winner is... Drumroll please... Draft number two!
I love the one she chose, and more importantly Nicole loves it! We worked together with ideas to pull off the perfect outcome and I couldn't be happier. I so appreciate the opportunity to work on this; I hope I did it all the justice it deserves.
Congratulations, Nicole, on beginning your new branding adventure. I can't wait to see what amazing things the future holds for The Buttercup Bakery!
